Our October meeting in Toronto was no exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We heard from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/shruti-dutta-cfa-05b11254\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shruti Dutta, CFA<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/andrew-pennington-cfa-cipm-fmva%C2%AE-mba-78a56214\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andrew Pennington, CFA, CIPM<\/a>, on challenges implementing Know Your Product standards under the Client Focused Reforms. Without clear, informed direction from regulators, firms are left to interpret open-ended standards on their own, such that they could reach diverging conclusions about what these standards require.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/christopher-d-keeley-cfa-cfp-cim-fcsi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chris Keeley, CFA<\/a>, turned our attention to research highlighting how active managers overwhelmingly underperform passive benchmarks\u2014especially over the long run\u2014and what this might mean for fiduciaries tasked with choosing among investment managers pursuing active and passive strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dwstanton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Stanton, CFA<\/a>, briefed us on central clearing and financial infrastructures in Canada, leading into a discussion on new rule proposals that would revisit requirements for central clearing of a variety of derivative products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also got to hear from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/stephendeane01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stephen Deane, CFA<\/a>, on current projects from CFA Institute on the rise of private credit and its implications for markets and regulators, as well as ethics in private markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of all, the meeting was a chance to catch up with one another and get ready for what\u2019s shaping up to be a busy regulatory season.
